Importance of Explosiveness in Armwrestling.

Explosiveness Is Not Necessary But Will Make You A Very Dangerous Puller!

The majority would agree that pullers from the lower-weight class seem to have better explosive power. However, as we edge towards heavier or open weight class, pullers seem to rely less on speed but brute strength. So it begs the question - Will having more muscle mass impede explosive speed, or is it a trait that heavy athletes feel unnecessary and prefer to rely on just brute strength to overwhelm opponents? More importantly, is it wise to neglect explosiveness?

We all know Force = Mass x Acceleration. So to generate the maximum amount of Force, you need to move something with tremendous speed. Some athletes are naturally more explosive due to the higher number of fast twitch muscle fibers. To run a quick test, blink your eyes as fast as possible. If you ace it effortlessly, chances are you have higher than average fast twitch fiber and will be a naturally explosive athlete.

You can work on explosivity for armwrestling. An explosive puller is always more dangerous, mainly if you pull in a top roll style. Notable pullers renowned for speed include Allen Fisher, Janis Amolins, Alexey Voevoda, Talgat Aktaev, Nurdaulet Aidarkhan, and Mark Luis Ben.

The best way to be explosive is to have a good mind-muscle connection. A good arm wrestler will know how to incorporate all the upper body muscle groups before being ready-go. The chain of armwrestling begins from the finger flexor, wrist, forearm, bicep, shoulder, chest, and back. Then, depending on your style, you either fall back like a tug-of-war or hit to the side. A common mistake is to put too much load on your hand. This is a big mistake! It will make you stiff and reduce the speed of your hit! Loading your back pressure with your brachialis is better, but your hand should be floating and relaxed.

I have included footage of their matches for you to observe. Now go out and work on your explosive power.
